CARTHAGE — A strong start propelled Carthage to a 43-28 victory over East Newton on Monday in nonconference girls basketball action.
The Tigers led 14-0 by the end of the first quarter and then took an 18-2 lead into halftime.
Carthage improved to 4-1 on the season.
Sierrah Negrette scored nine points to lead the Tigers, while Hailey Fullerton added eight and Jaxsyn Anderson contributed seven points.
Katie Kester scored nine points to lead the Patriots, while Madison McDermott added seven.
Carthage travels to Frontenac at 6 on Friday.
