JOPLIN - The rematch between Joplin and Carthage held a similar theme to the teams' first meeting of the season — it was all Joplin.
The Eagles, looking to extend their win streak to three games, registered a second consecutive 30-point triumph over Carthage in a 72-39 rout at Kaminsky Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Joplin (10-9), which never trailed after the six-minute mark of the opening quarter, led by as many as 35 points in the second half and forced a running clock in the entire fourth quarter. Carthage (10-9) was held to its lowest scoring output of the season. The Tigers' lowest scoring total heading into Tuesday night was a 76-41 loss to Joplin in their season opener at the Carthage Invitational on Nov. 27.
The Eagles broke away from an 8-8 tie midway through the first quarter and used a 14-2 surge to go up by double digits early in the second.
Marcus Huntley paced the Carthage scoring with 11 points while Martini added nine and
Patrick Carlton seven.
Carthage resumes COC play on Friday night when they host Republic. The evening will include Homecoming activities for the Tigers.
