SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A six-run fifth inning propelled Carthage to an 8-3 win over Parkview on Saturday in prep baseball action.
Zeke Sappington went 3-for-4 to lead the Tigers, while
Ian O'Malley drove in three runs,
Kale Schrader contributed two hits and
Trason Vogt scored twice.
Tanner Green earned the victory. He gave up one earned run on four hits in five innings. Schrader pitched the final two innings and did not allow an earned run.
"We did a really good job of pitching in the second game," Carthage coach
Mike Godfrey said. "
Tanner Green threw really well and our defense was solid all game behind him."
In the big fifth inning, the Tigers plated all six runs with two outs.
"
Ian O'Malley, with a full count, hit a shot to center and their center fielder dove and it got passed him, allowing us to score the three runs," Godfrey said. "That was a clutch hit for us."
In other action, Carthage suffered a 4-2 setback to Rogersville.
Schrader went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while
Will McCombs added an RBI for the Tigers.
Bryce Pugh and O'Malley scored the lone runs.
Pugh allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Rogersville's Caleb Casanova struck out 10 in the complete game win. Austin Hall drove in two runs for the Wildcats.
The Tigers (10-5) are at Joplin on Tuesday.
