Baseball: Carthage Rallies For Win At Willard

WILLARD — Carthage baseball waited until the sixth inning to find the scoreboard in a 3-1 come-from-behind win at Willard on Thursday.
The Tigers (21-5) took the early lead after Ethan Thompson touched home on a groudout by Garrett Rice in the last of the first. After four scoreless innings by both teams, Carthage (13-7) struck with three runs in the sixth to take the lead on the way to victory.
After the first batter recorded an out, Carthage singled in four straight at-bats to take the lead in the sixth inning. Trason Vogt and Bryce Pugh each singled to right to put two runners on before Ian O'Malley followed with a single to right to score Vogt and tie the game at 1-1. Kale Schrader singled on the infield to plate Pugh and give the Tigers the 2-1 lead. Zeke Sappinton added a sacrifice fly to wrap the scoring in the frame.
Schrader earned the win after allowing one unearned run on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Vogt struck out two and walked two to earn the save in a scoreless seventh inning.
Garrett Hunter took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
